Burren Nature Trail

This 1.5-kilometer loop, which takes approximately 40 minutes to traverse, begins at the main trailhead within the Burren National Park. As you journey along the path, you’ll be immersed in a picturesque landscape of lush woodlands, vibrant hay meadows, and rugged limestone terrain. Keep an eye out for the diverse array of flora that adorns this serene trail.

It’s not a difficult walk, though it includes some uneven terrain, so proper footwear is recommended. It’s suitable for all ages and fitness levels.

If you are interested in a more challenging hike with more expansive views, you can try the Mullaghmore Loop , which also starts nearby.

If you’re visiting in the summer, you can use the free National Park bus to get to the trailhead. If you’re driving, it’ll take about 1 hour from Galway or roughly 25 minutes from Ennis.

The Burren is a unique landscape made up of an expanse of limestone rocks, it’s home to a wide variety of plant species. This area is also known for its history, with ancient ruins and burial sites scattered throughout. So, this nature walk is a great way to explore some of the Burren.

In addition to this, visitors can also check out the Burren Visitor Centre, which provides information about the area’s geology, flora, and fauna, as well as its history and archaeology. The centre is open all year round, and admission is free.
